Derrick is an associate with Harrison & Mecklenburg, Inc., practicing primarily in business organizations, estate planning, trusts, family business transfer planning, probate, business and personal taxation, business litigation, oil & gas, environmental and agricultural law.

Professional Experience

Derrick was admitted to practice in Oklahoma in 2007 and is a member of the Kingfisher County and Oklahoma Bar Associations.  He is also a member of the American Agricultural Law Association.

Education

Derrick received his undergraduate degree in Agricultural Economics from Oklahoma State University in 2004. He attended law school at the Oklahoma City University School of Law and received his Juris Doctorate in 2007. He is a former President’s Distinguished Scholar, Robert C. Byrd Congressional Scholar, Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Chancellor’s Award Recipient, and was named the Oklahoma Elk’s Most Valuable Male Student in 2000.

Personal

Derrick was born and raised on the family farm in Fletcher, Oklahoma.  He was actively involved in FFA, where he showed livestock and was active in public speaking.  Derrick is a two-time state FFA speaking champion and was the National FFA runner-up in the FFA Creed. Derrick worked through college for Dr. Damona Doye in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Oklahoma State, where he helped develop Farm Financial Records programs, enterprise budget planning for farmers and Cooperative extension publications.  Derrick has also spent time as an intern for Cargill, Inc. and for the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Legal Foundation.

Derrick and his wife, Robyn reside in Stillwater, where Robyn manages her family’s furniture store, Furniture Showcase, with her sister Randi. Robyn is also a graduate of Oklahoma State, holding a Bachelor’s in Hotel and Restaurant Administration and a Master’s in Business Administration.  Robyn serves on the Board of Directors of the Stillwater Downtown Business Improvement District #1.  Derrick and Robyn have one son, Brooks. They enjoy attending OSU sporting events, have one cat named Bullet, and are members of the Stillwater Church of Christ.
